Mamma Can Do It Girl Dress

From time to time I look for simple patterns to make things for myself or others. I've been looking around for simple patterns for a girl's dress. I tried making a pillow case dress. While I liked the simplicity, I didn't like the way it looked. While checking my e-mails I saw that Mamma Can Do It had added a girl's dress to their patterns. I went to their site and loved the way the dress looked. I bought the pattern and loved how simple the directions were. Each step explained and a picture to go with the explanation. Here's my finished product:

I am considering selling these, because they are so darn cute and fun to make!

So if you want to make this dress also, head on over to Mamma Can Do It

Quilting for Charity

This is my 5th charity quilt for this year.

My goal is to make at least 12 this year.

The quilting method used is quilt as you go. The majority of the fabric used on the front of this quilt was donated by the employees and customers of Schrader's Fabrics by Barb

The flannel backing was made using left overs from other projects.

I sew the binding on using my sewing machine. This way it can last a little longer.

I have fun making these charity quilts. This quilt was donated to the Gabriel Project.

If you'd like to support me, head on over to my Etsy Shop

When life gives you scraps, make a quilt! Find a charity close to you and have fun making someone a quilt. I found out about Project Gabriel because I asked around. My church told me that they could use quilts for Project Gabriel. They also told me that they never bothered requesting quilts because they knew that quilting can be expensive. That really touched me and let me know that I'm doing the right thing.

There are inexpensive ways to quilt. In my case, people know I quilt for charity and they donate their left overs to me.  I also like to get my supplies from local yard sales. I love taking bits and pieces of batting from my stash and sewing them together to make one bigger piece. Nothing beats shopping the clearance section of a fabric store.

Get out there. Find some supplies and sew, sew, sew.

Getting started

I'm getting started with setting up my blog to coordinate with my Etsy shop: Nelly's Quilt Room

Be patient with me as I update a little at a time.

Soon to come are projects I'm working on for my shop and for different charities. I'm also working on selling directly from this site.

Stay tuned for more :-)
